EPA Honors the Best Energy-Efficient Building Designs
On May 18 at the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Convention in Washington, DC, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognized nearly 100 commercial building design projects submitted by 43 architecture firms that achieved Designed to Earn the Energy Star certification in the past year. Together, these projects which incorporate energy efficiency into their plans are estimated to prevent nearly 175,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually and save more than $23 million in annual energy costs across 10 million square feet of commercial space. Global generation capacity for nuclear power has grown to over 346 gigawatts since 1955
Nuclear generating capacity additions began in the 1950s and now top 346 gigawatts worldwide. The first nuclear reactor to produce electricity was a very small U.S. experimental reactor in 1951. Currently, 30 countries have nuclear power programs.
